She leaned back against the rough bark of the maple tree, ignoring the discomfort as it dug into her back, leaving dirt and grit coating her clothes. Idly she peeled the flesh off a fallen branch she had picked up before she had climbed into the limps of the shade tree, concentrating her attention on the smooth wood beneath her finger tips.
Funny how one started to take things for granted. Glancing down she studied the lines of the back beneath her, watching the way the sunlight played over a pristine white coat. The quiet comfort of equine teeth tearing the grass barely reached her ears. But even then, it was still a comfort after so many years.
"I never thought things could change," the girl sighed, shifting to lay back along the branch, her dark night blue wings etched in silver stretching out on either side.
A sigh came from below, and the white mare raised her head, shaking her forelock from about her eyes and ears. Sunlight flashed bright along her horn, scattering beams of radiance in all directions as her blue eyes stared up at the faerie. A glint in her eyes suggested annoyance with her bonded, and her quiet voice, though thought spoken, could be heard by any within earshot of the girl.
"And yet they have, and you continue to run away from them her tail snapped across her hocks as she strained her neck upward, touching the girl's boot and nipping at it.
Ignoring, or perhaps unaware of the mare's mood Jenell matched her sigh, staring at the leaves rustling in the trees. "I do not know what to do,"
"Light take you," the mare grumbled, striking slightly at the tree before dropping her head back to the grass. It would not have been so annoying if the same thing were not said every single hour, for the past two months.
